Oh dear God.

Click this link. Read the article. It's about 613 Fort Worth senior high schoolers who failed the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills exam. They won't be graduating with their class this year. So, several students and parents set up a protest, saying they had the right to walk across the stage with their friends and classmates, even though they won't be getting diplomas.

With me so far?

Okay, now take a close look at the picture accompanying the article. Note what the sign held by the person closest to the camera says.

America: When you go to the grocery store, oftentimes you can snag free samples.

Japan: When you go to the grocery store, oftentimes you can snag free samples. Of beer.

Seriously. Today, while I was at the store, they were setting up a display of Kirin キリン良質素材, a new kind of beer that debuts in a couple of days, and a company rep handed me a (250 ml) can. She then realized that I was a foreigner, and tried to explain in baby talk, which would've been entertaining, but I quickly thanked her in Japanese.

A while back, the video rental place was giving out bottles of some new variety of Seagram's Ice something or other. Given the low frequency of my drinking episodes, if this trend continues I could probably supply all of my alcohol needs for free this year.

I remember seeing this on TV when it first came out. Before the show began, Kermit had apparently asked Fozzie to put together a tribute to Jim Henson. Now, Fozzie had no clue who Jim Henson was...

The show was made up of clips from Henson's life, and tributes from many of the celebrities who were lucky enough to work with him. In between, Fozzie and the rest of the Muppets were trying to figure out who Henson was. At one point, someone recalled that Jim signed their paychecks every month, so Fozzie added an Accountant Drill team (precision calulators!) to the tribute. Later Gonzo remembered seeing Henson...down there.... Everyone looked down, and Fozzie exclaimed, "PEOPLE! And..." [dance dance] "...they MOVE when WE do!"

And then they found the pile of letters, all expressing sorrow at Jim's passing...

Saturday, May 05, 2007 - Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?

My result:
Final Fantasy Character Test

My reaction:

1. Cool.
2. Yah, right...

Oh, and if you've never played FF, and don't know who that is...don't worry about it. Not that important.

Get a First Life

I've heard of Second Life. I've seen gameplay footage, I've read faqs and articles. I just don't see the appeal. Which is why this struck me as funny.

Remember when SNL was GOOD?

And by GOOD I mean FREAKIN' BRILLIANT. I miss those days.
